FRANK Z LLOBERA


Frank Z. Llobera is a writer, translator and poet. He translates between English and Catalan, as well as English and Spanish, and also writes prose and poetry. He is the founder of @zetapoetry, a popular social media handle featuring short poems, quotes, and translations.

Frank comes from a diverse family background, and has been writing in multiple languages from a young age. His great-grandfather Rafael Llobera was a painter, whilst the renowned poet Miquel Costa i Llobera also belongs to his family tree (see below for more).

He was longlisted in the 2021-22 John Dryden Translation Competition prize of the British Comparative Literature Association for his translation of the “Ode to Horace” by Miquel Costa i Llobera. He was recently a finalist in the 2023-24 and 2024-25 Poetry Contest in Olot, Catalonia.

Rafael Llobera Martorell (Binissalem, 1895 – Pollença, 1973) was a painter from Mallorca, Spain. He is Frank’s maternal great-grandfather.

Miquel Costa i Llobera (Pollença, 1854 – Palma de Mallorca, 1922), was a poet and presbyter from Mallorca, Spain. He is widely regarded as a prominent figure of Catalan poetry, and the author of acclaimed works such as “The Pine of Formentor.”

WILLIAM WATSON T. RITCHIE

GREAT-UNCLE

William Watson T. Ritchie (Helensburgh, 1917 – Palma de Mallorca, 2000), was a RAF pilot during WWII, and later Air Commodore. Turned part-time sculptor in Mallorca, he had one of his works exhibited at the Royal Academy in London. Princess Margaret took a fancy to it, and it stood at the Barnardo’s HQ.
